Rebecca Long Bailey MP, Labour’s Shadow Business and Energy Secretary, responding to reports that construction of the new Wylfa Newydd nuclear power station will be halted, said:
“Reports that the building of a nuclear power plant in Wylfa could be cancelled are very worrying, not least because of the implications of such a decision for the economy and jobs in North Wales. This could have a significant negative impact on the UK’s energy security, particularly after the collapse of the Moorside power station plans in 2018.
“The Prime Minister must tell the public if she discussed Hitachi’s plans for Wylfa with Shinzo Abe during his visit this week.”
