Sinn Féin MLA Pat Sheehan has said he is disappointed at today’s judgement to uphold a decision to prevent Gaelscoil an Lonnáin moving to a new premises.
The West Belfast MLA said:
“Today’s judgement in the High Court to uphold the decision taken by then DUP Minister Peter Weir to refuse a proposal to allow Gaelscoil an Lonnáin to move to the site of the former St Comgall’s School is disappointing.
“It is disappointing for the pupils, parents and staff of the school as it means the school will remain with premises and facilities that are extremely challenging.
“All children are entitled to an adequate level of education and to an environment that is fit for purpose.
“I now call on the Department of Education to explain clearly to Gaelscoil an Lonnáin what measures they will take to fulfil their responsibilities to the school and pupils and to fulfil their responsibility to encourage and facilitate Irish Medium Education for these children.”
