MIL-OSI Australia: Chocolate high tea

Source: City of Sydney What’s On

Come and experience the Wonka-like magic to wow your senses and tastebuds

Already renowned for their high tea offerings (including vegan, gluten free and child friendly options), the hotel has launched a chocolate high tea. The chocolate high tea menu features mouth-watering sweet items such as handmade passionfruit lollipops, chocolate mud cake, chocolate mousse, caramel popping candy tarts, Oreo macarons and chocolate chip scones with cacao cream and strawberry jam. Savoury items include spinach and feta rolls and sausage rolls.
With this high tea being a sensory and tasty chocolate experience, it also is available during February, making it the perfect Valentine’s Day treat. The hotel will also be running a competition to allow one lucky winner to spoil their loved one to a chocolate high tea during the “month of giving”. Our hotel’s act of kindness will also involve giving away 3 chocolate high tea family passes to The Infants’ Home, a Sydney early childhood centre.
Bookings essential.

MIL-OSI Australia: Learning from the Green Bans

Source: City of Sydney What’s On

In April 1973 a ‘green ban’ was placed on Victoria Street to defend the working-class suburb of Kings Cross from redevelopment. Part of a large-scale campaign led by the NSW Builders Labourers Federation that saw construction workers withdraw their labour on over 40 projects deemed to be socially and environmentally harmful, the green bans constitute an integral part of Sydney’s social, political and architectural history.
Hear from an esteemed panel of speakers moderated by historian Rowan Cahill and including: feminist and anti-racism activist Dr Meredith Burgmann; independent filmmaker and ex-builders labourer Pat Fiske; and activist and builders labourer Andy Mason as they discuss the legacy of the Green Bans activism today.
Following the panel, Pat Fiske will introduce a screening of her documentary Rocking the Foundations 1986 that chronicles this important history.
Presented as part of the exhibition The Beehive at UNSW Galleries.
The Beehive was produced by Philippa Bateman. An Enigma Machine Production. An Artbank + ACMI Commission. Exhibition runs from 5 January to 23 February 2019.
This event forms part of the ‘Radical Sydney’ public program series. Taking its title from Terry Irving and Rowan Cahill’s book on dissident politics and actions in Sydney this program of talks, documentary screenings and performances engages with the histories and futures of local activism concerned with housing, public space, sexuality and gender. This event is generously supported by Young Henrys beer.
UNSW Galleries acknowledges the Bidjigal and Gadigal peoples of the Eora nation, the traditional custodians of the land upon which it stands.
